spoiled with ice, so very nice

last night we went to pick up my wedding bands from the jeweler. my favorite parts of the wedding are definitely the trips to the jeweler!

normally when a couple gets engaged in egypt, the girl gets 3 rings, not just one!  they include the engagement ring (diamond), a wedding band (also diamond to match), and a simple gold band, to wear day to day. (here, women don't really wear their diamond rings the way we do back in the states.  diamonds usually only come out at weddings or formal events.) the guy will also get himself his silver/white gold wedding band, and both he and she wear their rings on their right hands while they're engaged.  but when we got engaged, i didn't want the wedding band yet, i wanted to wait until the wedding to save something special for the occasion.

so last week we finally went to the wonderful jeweler where we had our engagement bands made.  back when we got engaged, bib wanted to design our engagement bands himself in 3D... since this is his livelihood, hoping that they could be 3D printed.  he was very happy to find out that the jeweler right around the corner from my place uses this technique, and has a 3D printer that prints out the jewelry in wax, and then they cast it into gold.

he designed our rings to bear each others' names in a modern, abstract arabic font that he designed himself, using rhino.  he emailed them the file, they printed it out, and there you go.  customized 3D printed rings.  i absolutely love our rings, and i love that he did this for us.  it's so special and unique, so true to who we are.  when we explained what he had done to friends and family, it inspired others to try this too!

when my cousin was getting engaged a few months later, they wanted rings with each others' fingerprints printed on them.  so we referred them to our jeweler, who made the creative rings for them.  this has now brought them a whole new wave of clientele looking to make custom bands, the possibilities are endless.

on the way to pick up one of my wedding bands, i was so excited, i sang the whole way to the jeweler, and then the whole way out.  so to return the gesture of generosity and kindness to my bib, i treated him to some ice too.  the creamed form.  from mandarine koueder, the best ice cream in town.

love him so much!!
