playing food tricks on bib

i do this all the time.  i love to experiment with new foods and recipes, but bib is a picky eater.

he never likes to try anything new, and always has to make such a fuss about it when he does. he's the kind of guy who grew up eating french fries for breakfast--- yes, gasp, french fries... and limited his diet to mcdonalds and various kinds forms of fried chicken.  since we've been together, he's become very adventurous by his own standards, and learned to enjoy healthy and fresh things.  often times, i'll make something healthy and fresh, and he'll say, wow, i didn't know [food] could taste so good! so now, whenever i cook, i purposely try to challenge his palate.  that often involves me lying about the actual ingredients in the dish.  he won't try it if he's already put it in his mind that he doesn't like it.  so i just don't share the secret to my recipes.

for example, last week i made this wonderful chicken liver pate with caramelized onions and granny smith apples.  i know that bib hates liver, but i made it anyway. it really came out better than i expected, and bib also enjoyed my "chicken pate."  i waited until the end to tell him that it was actually chicken liver, and even though he was a little upset about it, that doesn't change the fact that he loved it.

zooba however, was the real trooper!  he went crazy over it, and it was the first time we'd seen him eat meat!  he literally ate until he fell into a food coma.  and that was the first time we witnessed, cat-itis.
