our engagement party

our engagement party was a wonderful party, a true reflection and vision of us. we decided to have it under a tent in the backyard of the home i grew up in.  it was small, cute and intimate with just our closest friends.

bib and i had 3 weeks to plan the event, and while i was able to go home to the states early, he arrived just 2 days before the party!  so it was a global and virtual effort, relying on facetime and whatsapp to send pictures, ideas, and opinions back and forth.

i had a vision for the engagement party. i knew exactly what i wanted, and luckily had a very easy time finding everything- from the centerpieces, to the types and colors and flowers, the cake, and all the accessories in between. i scoured every store i've ever bought a home accessory from, including home depot, for the random selection of vases i placed down the center of the tables. i even planted and grew wheat grass for some of the centerpieces a week before! and then the flowers. the second day after bib arrived, we were in the city sight-seeing, picking up our beautiful cake and cupcakes, and driving all over the city, scouring every bodega selling flowers, hoarding all the ones that fit our color scheme. the colors and selection we found were amazing. it couldn't have been more perfect.

i learned what an incredible existence a party rental place has. the options!!! tables, chairs, covers, napkins, tents, and all in every color imaginable! it was a shame that i only had one party to plan for!

even the cake and cupcakes were perfect! when i interned in nyc one college summer, i passed by cupcake cafe, where i saw THE most beautiful edible creations ever. i was so smitten, that i decided that i would get their cakes for every special occasion in the future: bridal & baby showers, engagement parties, etc. so when i finally had the chance to get this cake for our engagement party, it was a vision 10 years in the making!

i'll admit that i was a bit of a bride/boss-zilla the day of, when it came to the setup.  but in the end, it was a stunning vision that was casual and cute.  our only big regret is that we didn't hire a photographer for the day. what few pictures we have offer us enough, but there were so many special and wonderful details, it would have been wonderful to capture them all professionally.

i get super excited the photos get repinned on pinterest! it's such a compliment. we were equally as hands on when it came to our wedding planning.  we created the vision, and just hired a wedding planner to execute it.  every little feature and detail was selected and designed by us.  so we just can't wait to see the outcome of our wedding and photos.
